  • Velocity Level 2 & VCMC Series Event #2 Double-Header

VCMC turned up the heat this past weekend with two events that focused heavily on the competitive aspect of the sport. Saturday saw the return of Velocity Level 2, VCMC's advanced driving school for autocrossers seeking expert coaching on competitive driving. Twenty students honed their skills on a course design and lesson plan devised by none other than multi-time National champion Gary Milligan. After more than a dozen practice runs and a wealth of advice from many former trophy winners, VCMC's newest crop of trophy-hunters are well-prepared to tackle a busy summer of regional and national competition.

This set the stage for Sunday's event, VCMC Series Event #2, where many graduates and instructors from the Velocity program put their skills to the test in head-to-head competition. The event also had the feel of a mini BC Championship with representatives from the Island, Interior, and the Mainland in each of the groups. In Open PAX, it was the battle of the roadsters with Brian Hemming from Kelowna capturing the top spot in a CSP Miata fending off a bevy of S2000s. In Ladies competition, Charlene Stickney piloted the same CSP Miata to a win. Arnold Yee and Robert Lu, two of our Velocity Level 2 coaches, won the Stock and Non-Stock 1 groups respectively in an HS Cooper and BSP Corvette. Over in the Non-Stock 2 group, an SSM Corvette took the win with Jim Sandwith of Victoria at the helm. One of last year's fastest novices, Ken Liu, drove his ST Mazda 3 to a win in Non-Stock 3.
