    VCMC Track Day #1 Recap

VCMC hosted its first track day of 2011 at Mission Raceway Park this past Thursday. There was no shortage of vehicular eye-candy for participants to oggle between sessions, including some rarely seen GT3 RS's and a Scuderia 16M. A dozen novices paired up with senior drivers for orientation and by the day's end impressed their instructors with their new-found confidence and line choices around the circuit.

  • Knox Mountain Hill Climb 2011

    Knox Mountain Hill Climb 2011

Wanna hear more stories about this year's Knox?
Join our June Monthly Member's Meeting

Well that as a very interesting and exhilerating event.

As soon as you pull in to the pits you know you are getting involved in something special.
Trailers, campers and racecars sitting between nice shady trees at the base of a huge grey rockface.
You're almost stepping back in time (and the number of vintage racers certainly help that aura).

But the atmosphere is something you'll have to experience for yourselves, here's some details on the racing :-)

Firstly, the hill is WAY steeper than you think if you've only watched the videos. Mike and I visited Knox a full month before the event to ride our bikes up it and get an idea for the terrain. I'm glad we did. Even though I went up to watch in 2007, the surface of the track can only really be experienced by being on it. Friday before the race we biked up it three times and also walked the course with Uncle Joe which was a big help. Joe described bumps and conditions of the surface that literally were invisible on the walk but came alive when you drove the track. (Bumps at the start gate and also after 4 for example). Most corners and crests are completely blind, especially in the FF. Unlike an autocross, as soon as cars were in the hot-pits (pre-grid) I could feel my nerves starting to tingle. When the first car launched up the hill I thought "Am I really doing this?!"....

  • NCT #3 Recap

    NCT #3 Recap

Wow, who would've guessed May long weekend would have ended up as wet as it did? Those who decided to forego the shopping exodus to the US were rewarded with a 54 entrant NCT #3 and 8 runs in conditions changing more rapidly than a F1 race in Malaysia's rain season! We also missed some veteran racers who were enjoying the sun in Kelowna and racing to the sky at our very own local hillclimb at Knox Mountain!

The day welcomed racers with a big splash of rain soaking the pad and bringing forth the signature "Swimming Pool" corner of BCDC. Course Designer Dean Chen was experienced enough to have designed around it yet was thwarted when his showcase sweeper exited right into "Mini Swimming Pool"!

  • Awsome Spec Miata Battle at MRP

Awsome Spec Miata Battle at MRP

Here is a video of my 2nd race as a novice at Mission Raceway Park on May 14th 2011. This was also the Sports Car Club Of British Columbia's 60th Anniversary weekend. This Miata was driven by a few of you VCMC memebers and eventually became a PDM car that I purchased last year. A great race with six lead changes, bump drafting, lots of oversteer and tight clean racing. This was a fight till almost the last lap at Mission's River's Edge Roadcourse in Mission BC. This was also the Sports Car Club of British Columbia's 60th Anniversary Weekend on April 14th 2011. ...

I'm looking for feedback on this one, to see if I'm communicating the concept well enough.

    Volunteers needed!

We're enlisting volunteers to help with the June 11th Velocity day. This is a great opportunity to see how the next level of velocity school works from behind the scenes and also gain experience in different event management roles without the pressure of an ongoing race! + This is your chance to see up close and personal the training of VCMC's latest crop of Trophy Chasers. Plus you get to join in the LUNCH provided by the school! (yum!...
