  • April 14th Closed Club

The results are now posted. What a crazy day today!!! Thanks to all the participants that braved the rain and fierce wind and put on a great display of driving. I will admit though that some were getting a bit on the wild side; always remember that pushing a car to that extent will never result in a fast time.

Thanks to Guido and his crew for a first class event. Most impressive was how his crew managed to work around the one hour delay that I brought about in the morning when I arrived late with the registration equipment. The event started only four minutes behind schedule with the first car out at exactly 9:34am.

Please provide feedback in this topic. Thanks again to all!

it was a great event! many thanks to all who put it together

the track was great. the staircase/ladder was a very nice departure from the standard layouts and a rather interesting puzzle when walking the course (i was sure i wouldn't be able to make it straight through but i did like everyone else )

this was my first event this year and having the concession stand there is great especially in today's weather

a rain-induced drift in the far sweeper made the day complete for me DO-RIFTO hahaha... (hmm... the 1/3rd to 1/2 tank of gas might also have been a factor )

i didn't know the delay for registration was that long and kudos definitely go to the organizers for overcoming it!

    Thanks again!
    Zach

it was a great event despite the cold and wet weather! A big thanx to the person who brought timbits to the timing and scoring people -that was very thoughtful!!!-...the track was VERY fun, a great layout...it also marked the first ever autocross in which my first run was my only clean run!!LOL, anyway i'm VERY impressed with the speed of our novices and i look forward to us kicking some butt at the regionals!!

Yeah, great event guys, I'm really looking forward to the upcoming events now that I'm a member. And Yarko, I hear ya man, I did have two clean runs, but my first has my fastest. What's with that?

In similar events with similar # of cars and efficiency, is a sixth run possible if we can keep up the efficiency like this in the future?

Gary, you and Jason missed the fun part afterward... two more fun runs. (I think Ricky made 3 fun runs for some reasons. )

A sixth run is possible when the days get longer. The problem we face now is that with the weather so difficult to deal with, the event organizers who are there from 7am until closing time are completely drained. We could potentially go for 7-8 runs deep into the late evening at Boundary Bay when the days get longer *if* we find a better way to apportion workload in the event crew.

For example, we could have the event crew split into two shifts (we learned this works well from Rod Mores introducing this tactic in the tech group this past weekend) with the cutover at 1pm with the morning crew responsible from 7am to 1pm and the afternoon crew responsible from 1pm to 7pm. It takes about 1.25 hours to run a group including switch over. If we have 100 cars at an event (100 will be the norm this year, this past weekend was an anomoly due to exams), we could have runs of about 45-50 seconds with a 10 second overlap and get in 7-8 runs, even with 100 cars.

The key thing is to not burn out the event organizers over the course of the year. As our membership grows, we have a larger pool of talent to dip into which will allow us to take VCMC Motorsport Club to a new level.

When we reach 300-350 members, we will then have the critical mass required to move towards two day closed clubs, which means more runs for everyone *and* the opportunity to get even more seat time if you do both days.

Hope this sheds some light on the planning and thinking that the ELT have been doing for the past few months.

You aren't the only one Yarko. My times all over the place. I seem to be having a bit of trouble with the mid engine car thing. It keeps life interesting though.

For one thing, the pavement condition was not consistent thru'out the day to begin with.

My opinion on skidpad is don't get too concerned about skidpad G's once you get your setup in the ballpark (you may want to know throttle transition characteristics at skidpad though). You can set up a car with race tires, steep camber curve (like the miata) and relatively soft springs to handle well with great transition characteristics on an autox course while understeers on skidpad.

For example, Terence's 1st gen RX-7 with solid rear axle outperformed my miata on the skidpad years ago. However, the miata suspension design yields better transition than the RX.

BTW, don't they have skidpad section at the Velocity school?

                          frustrating day for me
                          first run i got lost
second one i spun out and dnf
third it started raining and my car felt like *** . sliding all over the place.

weather, exams and frustration caused me to take off early.

seemed like there was quite a delay switching run groups. more so then the last couple of events.

i really liked the way the course was set up. really technical.

haha, you guys had problems with consistancy. I didn't have a problem with that. The problem I has was getting a good time to be consistant on. I got a dnf, 63, 61 and couple of 58's. So either me and/or car are reaching limits with current setup. If you want consistant runs, let me drive your car, but don't look for any good times .

I like the way the event went, it was too windy for my tastes but other than that, it was fine for me. the worker/racer change over times were a little long and the fact that alot of people left after their run group finished the first 3 runs didn't make it any better.
I improved my times again, and i'm happy about it, just wished there was a little more consistantsy for track conditions. i think i had one run in every possible condition except hail/snow...

                              Good job guys!

                              Hey Yarko,
I have your tire pump and pressure gauge case, you left them on/under my tarp!

I took 3 fun-runs aswell! my last two were just me playing with the oversteer in my car. My first run was a DNF because i sorta skipped the second lap of the back section...

So who is going to the regionals?
I'm running around like mad trying to get my hands on some 16s and R compunds....
