  • VCMC Season Warm-Up - Saturday April 13

VCMC Motorsport Club is excited to present the VCMC Season Warm-Up on April 13.

After a few months of R&R, and perhaps mental preparation for the 2013 season, the folks at VCMC have finally rolled up their sleeves to bring forth the 1st event of the season.

This event will not be part of the regular season series. For those eagerly awaiting the 2013 VCMC series, this will be a great opportunity to 'Warm-Up' and do a bit of test and tune before competing with your fellow drivers for valuable points in upcoming events.

And for anyone new to Autocross, come out and see what it's all about. Enjoy a leisurely, yet spirited, weekend drive or try and improve your skills in a safe and friendly environment.

    FORMAT
Please note that the VCMC Season Warm-Up is not part of the 2013 VCMC Series.
The event is held on the FULL 1000' x 500' pad!

Race Date: Saturday, April 13, 2013
Location: BC Driving Center (Pitt Meadows Airport)
    Gates open @ 7:00 am
    Tech closes @ 8:15am
    Reg closes @ 8:30am (sharp!)

(Please note that these times are strictly enforced and anyone not registered/tech-ed by 8:30am will not be allowed to run. Please allow enough time for car prep and registration.)

Driver's meeting will be held at 9am.

BC Driving Centre, Pitt Meadows -- How do I get there?

    RULES & REQUIREMENTS
All entrants must be current VCMC members. You may either purchase membership for the entire year or a single weekend membership. Weekend memberships can be purchased upon registration for the event. If you are new to VCMC, your first-year membership includes one free single-day autocross event.

BC Driving Centre has a strict sound limit of 92dB measured at 50 feet. Vehicles exceeding this limit or producing obnoxious, annoying, or excessive noise (tire, engine, exhaust, etc), as judged by the organizers, will be asked to stop running and no refunds will be issued.

    Please read the Supplemental Regulations.

    REGISTRATION
Pre-registration via MotorsportReg.com is MANDATORY for all entrants including new members. To ensure a smooth morning registration/check-in process for all participants, we can no longer accept on-site registrations. New members may claim their free event upon registration on the MotorsportReg form. If you are a new member and have not received your discount code please contact the Membership Director.

The standard event fee for VCMC members is $55.
Event fee for non-members (including a $15 weekend membership) is $70.
Registration closes at 8PM on April 12, 2013.

In particular, if you are interested in any of the following volunteer positions, please indicate your request below. Note that signing up for a volunteer position does not necessarily mean you will be excluded from working during the run heats, but we will look for more relaxed duties for you to do as much as we can.

    Work Assignment

You will notice in the registration form two additional drop-down fields - first and second choice for work assignment preferences. This is to help improve our event operations planning and efficiency. The choices, typical available positions, time commitment and descriptions are as follows:

    No Preference/Volunteer Position

You do not have a preference or have signed up for a volunteer position on the forum. We will automatically assign you in a manner that is most optimal for the event.

    Course Duty

4 x number of work stations per work heat
    Entire work heat
Cone-catching, red flag waving, radio duties at a course worker station each work heat. Watch the runs from a spectacular view.

    Tech Inspection

3 - First shift with one person, second shift with two people
    30 - 40 minutes
    Very popular choice
An early morning duty that ensure all competing vehicles meet our minimum tech safety requirements. This is typically 30 - 40 minutes per shift and the inspectors must be punctual and diligent. Having some mechanical knowledge an asset.

    Timing Operations

    4 per work heat
    Entire work heat
Stay in a sheltered area while contributing to a critical aspect of the event
Barcode scanner, start light operator, timing equipment operators. You will work with the Chief of Timing to ensure the event runs smoothly and accurately during your work heat. Training provided if necessary.

    Waivers Sign-up/Front Gate Duty

2 single-person shifts in the morning, 1 per work heat
1 hour per morning shift, or entire work heat
This helps satisfy the legal requirements of running our event by ensuring all event participants and spectators read, understand and sign to acknowledge our waiver form and have a wristband as proof. This is either an early morning duty for participants arriving on-site or during your work heat. Please note that any Minors on site (those under the age of 18) MUST sign the Minor Waiver at each event and a Parent must sign the Annual Parental Consent Waiver for the first event only. If you are not sure if the Annual Parental Consent Waiver has been signed or not, PLEASE have a parent sign as well as the minor.

    Event Day Setup/Teardown

    10 - 15 people
30 - 45 minutes before and after event
Help pack and unpack our equipment at the start and end of the event day. This is typically 20-30 minutes before and after the event depending on the number of workers.

    Course Setup (day before event)

    6 - 10 people
    ~2 hours day before event
Help layout the course prior to event day. Must be available the day before. This is typically after 5pm on a Saturday for a couple hours.

We will be assigning roles based on preference where possible but in order to maintain event operations efficiency we unfortunately cannot guarantee any preferences. You can help everyone out by picking typically 'less' popular assignments or choosing 'No Preference'!

Please let us know which volunteer positions you are interested in.
Also, we could use 7-8 helpers for course setup the day before. If you have some time to help out, we'd very much appreciate it!

What's the story on the Honda? Who's new toy?
It's just a practice event so no need to bump yourselves to SMF.

It's mine - I wanted to see if I could build a car for local (Kelowna/Vernon) events for less that an a set of Hoosiers for the Miata. Mission accomplished at least until we break something. Plus the FWD thing baffles me - I've always wanted to figure it out (I know - that's just plain crazy)

We just figured we would try it out since it's only a practice event........ back to the Miata when the real season starts.
