Whew! Finally got a short break to breathe. Problems fixed... Orders made... The "2nd wave" is not going to hit until my orders come in... hehe!
Anyways, in case anybody wonders why I only had 2 runs last sunday... A bolt worked itself loose from the water pump and scratched the timing belt badly. Yeah Sead, you heard it. I checked and checked very closely in the morning but couldn't find the loosened bolt hidden underneath the water pump neck and belt cover. I thought it was just a maladjusted tensioner on the timing belt. The damage was obvious after the 2nd run when I noticed the timing belt was kind of peeled off quite a bit. Thanks Alex for lending me tools to remove all accessory belts and pulleys and belt cover before even able to see the loosened bolt. I didn't want to risk my engine for another 2 runs so I drove home slowly and below 3000rpm.
See guys and gals, that's another reason not to tweak your car. Go work on your driving skills. :P
Anyways, I felt happy on sunday since I've already tested out what I wanted. It was another testimony of my treadless 032Rs after the PRW event last friday. Sunday was the 1st time I ran my Yoko A520 street tires in autox, and 2nd time ever with my miata on street tires. My impression on the 1st run was like, "man! they're setting the slaloms and chicago boxes SO wide!" The car turns in excellent, held on great on the 180 considering street tires, and the back end swings out and stays put very predictably. Even with conservative driving w/o any tire squealing on the cheap street tires, I put down a relatively "respectable time" (I believe 5th fastest production car) on my very 1st run.
I think the key is wide wheels. My 7" K1s are plenty wide enough for the 195 A520. I just hope that my 9" Kodiaks with 235 will provide similar or better effects. I know it's not that simple. I know the 235 will be more camber-sensitive. A few alignment changes would be part of the "2nd wave" the least.
Did I mention that Darryle finally got my rim halves so my Kodiaks will be ready tomorrow (if they get everything right)?
