  • Race results from Vernon??

?? Inquiring minds wanna know ??

Egad...1100 km's of driving in two days. Wasn't there the first day but was there for the Regional. Weather was nice and HOT. Up in the mountains, it's not bad...but Vernon was a fiery 37 Celcius. And no A/C...

Was talking to Roberta and she said this was the biggest VCMC turnout in awhile. There were at least 10 of us. The lot was again dirty and but cleaned off quite a bit on the first day. It was still dusty though and grip varied from decent to very slippery, especially if you got off line. Dave Pontifax said he is considering changing location of the event to the Speedway just out of Vernon where the regular OASC usually compete.

Regarding results...I screwed up and hit cones. There was a tight chicago box (6 paces wide at entry and exit) that many were hitting all day. DSS went to a OASC competitor (they took all their runs in the morning consecutively so that they could attend their own event at the Speedway - a bit of an advantage IMHO). Not sure which car it was but I assume it was an Acura Integra. No excuses though - I had em beat by over a second but coned.

ESP went to Glenn. He's officially wrapped up the title. I believe he was also FTD.

In SS, Franco came 1st with his new Hoosiers (exact same combo as Bernie/Alex's car). Like me, Lisa had a cone day as well.

Dave Pontifax was the only person to run both days and not hit a single cone. Impressive considering the tightness of the course.

    Anyone else remember any details?

There were on average 30-35 competitors for each day, while we had 4 runs on each day. No fun runs.

I wish there were more fun runs.

We finished at 2:30 on Sunday.

Oh, did I mentioned that I wish there were more runs?

Yeah, kinda wish they would have substituted the hour-long lunch break with more runs and have started earlier.

What's the nature of the Speedway? Is it an oval with an infield kinda like the facility in Calgary?

One of the OASC people told me that it's called the Sun-Valley speedway and it's an oval.

Is it really 1100km? But the weather and the nice camp ground worth all my driving to finish this summer. Of course, more runs would make it perfect since I were not happy with any of my runs. :P

            Brian, thanks for the link.

It was 440km for me each way. so pretty close to 1000km both ways.

I ran one of the OASC events back in July.

It is a banked oval track, they used the paved infield for pits and grid. The infield is not (in my opinion) large enough to run on, especially with lamp posts in there.

The course I ran had essentially two laps around the oval, both in opposite directions, dodging cones and running through a chicago box. The turn around between laps took place through the entrance to pit row. A few spots hit 3rd gear in the Civic.

It was weird running slaloms through a banked turn.

There is a fair bit of runout if you lose it, but if you've way lost it, there's concrete walls either side to stop you (ouch).

The track is about 8 - 10 minutes out of Vernon, on the highway to Falkland and Kamloops. Super easy to get to, less of a drive than Silverstar from mumsie's place.

Also really unsafe in terms of course design, IMHO.

Regarding extra runs, it would have been possible, but there already weren't that many people there to be course workers. Plus everyone seemed to want to get home before dark.

Is it legal to have more than 4 runs at Regional event? Is that up to the discretion of the organizers? Overall running time was about 4.5 hrs (including lunch) so there would have been plenty of time.

My extra kilometerage was from visiting friends in Kelowna and also since I live on the North Shore.

Anyone notice their temperatute gauges going up on the long hills out of Kelowna? I saw about half a dozen overheated cars on the side of the road, and this was after 6 pm at night!

The min. is 2 runs to count for an official event. No limit as to the maximum. It would be up to event officials and any material change in the program of events would need a drivers' meeting to confirm.

That other point you had about OASC driver taking all their runs consecutively... Did everyone else get to do this/ If not, then those results would've been protestable if the other drivers didn't agree to the arrangment at the drivers meeting.

Additionally, there is some understanding that you need 5 minutes or 5 cars between runs of any particular car. This is mainly to prevent running back-to-back, and the advantage of hot tires.

The issue was brought up at the driver's meeting, no body complained, and thus it was so.

I figure if you're given an opportunity to bitch, and you don't take it, what recourse do you expect to have afterwards?
