...instead of going to the regional in vernon, i co-drove my dad's 996 is the porsche weekend. the autocross was in my hometown, up at base two. the site isn't large, but a good course can be set. the course was very fast, and had good opprotunities to get the speed up. there were only two tight slaloms, and you carried a lot of speed into them. in the end i ended up 2nd overall for all stock/slightly modified cars (60+ cars) and missed first by .2 of a second. it was awesome driving the car. i haven't had that much power since driving star mazdas. it was a very easy car to drive. getting it to rotate in the slaloms was simple. needed to work on my starts though, as i can't do the same clutch intensive starts that i can do in a 100hp vw. i was beaten out by a 93' carrera rs america. i then recieved my award in one of the most boring banquets i have ever sat through. the fordahls got the ftd in their fp 914. other notable cars were a 944 w/ supertrapps. after hearing that i knew i didn't want one anymore. there was a ruf 3400s, 73' rs, and a bunch of well prepped (and really fast) 914. don't know why some people think that car is so ugly. all in all a good weekend, although i would have liked to get some points in vernon.
edit: the nicest car there had to be a early 90's turbo. the two wheel drive, 3.6l one. i believe it's the 964? this thing was bordering on totally volatile. really modified, so much lag, but when the turbo spooled up, you couldn't even hear the engine. sweet blowoff valve too. probably the worst car to have in an autocross. blew off course many times with the massive unpredicable power.
