  • Solo 1

Last year, VCMC organized its first Solo 1 event. The number of VCMC members entered in that event (or other Solo 1 events for that matter) has been way lower than anticipated. Is there a reason why, I am wondering? It requires a set of 5-point harness ($120) and a nomex head sock ($100). The good part is that there is less competitors and faster turn over time between runs. I think most of our members should consider giving it a try next year.

yes... it was fun hitting the rev limiter in 2nd gear then 3rd for 4 seconds (~120-140) all the way from the gate to the tire wall!

requirement for solo1 in boundary bay is pretty loose. think of all the fun you can get with the extra $150. The 5pt harness and nomex balacava is also good for solo 2 and road racing.

I bought a novice Solo 1 license, arm restraints and a neck coller and, had every intention to give it a try. But it didn't work out. Rain.

      Next year!!!

If I've got a Snell rated helmet ... do I still need the Balaclava?

If it's SA rated, then NO.

are there any 5 pt harnesses out there that I can remove easily after solo I/II days?

...in case I gotta take passengers.. plus don't wanna spoil that incognito yet-another-black-jetta-on-the-road look my car that it is in now (.. hubcaps and all)..

for solo 1 in Boundary Bay, no cage required.

Lesile, I have a 5pt harness installed, and u can't see it if I store it properly. I can show u @ the tech night if u want to put one in.

Lawrence, how did you put the 5th pt in?
I thought you either need to cut your seat or get a racing seat to make them fit properly?

Gerald (currently at 4 pt harness)

That 5th one can be mounted going around the front of the seat. Kind of useless, but do we really need it at BB?
Leslie:The lap belts can be tucked away quite neatly on the sides of the seat. The shoulder belts can be attached to the seatbelt bolts under the rear seat, and tucked away neatly. For a sedan, you can get some kind of quick release clips that could hook onto the bolts on the board behind the rear headrests.

solo 1 is alot of fun, and there has been talk about trying to host more of them in the future (On saturdays before solo II events), I ran a Bcma event in my brothers stock 1Le and pulled 140k through the lights....

It is a really good chance for guys like me to test their hillclimb/race cars in a lower pressure and less 'risky' enviroment then at the track

It would be nice one day to have enough events to have a BB solo I series

Just a dumb question but for us dropheads (Miata) we will also need a roll bar, right? This should be a bar built to SCCA specs also, right?

Looking forward to trying solo 1 next year as the Boss (Artemis) is now interested and has approved the roll bar purchase if needed. Now I just have to convince her to try a track day

                            Hi Don,

A roll bar is not required for Solo 1 at Boundary Bay, it is a requirement for Solo 1 events at Mission. You might want to look more closely at the section of the rulebook that pertains to rollbars if you plan to compete in Solo 1 or Hillclimbs at venues other than Boundary Bay.

                              Thanks Guido,

I knew it was a requirement for Solo 1 elsewhere but I had never heard it mentioned for BB. It's good to know that we can take our time with it as I want to get a custom bar to SCCA specs.

Also, I guess I need to check out our Canadian rule books along with the SCCA one, eh?
