Take a look at what brand of tire is winning STS. Also, WRX's over Type-R's in D-Stock.

    Brian: Peter, those are Cheerios.

    STS: Falken tires?
The other classes seem to be 50% Hoosier tires. Way toooo expensive for this cowboy. I would need at least two sets.

Spec Pinto? They have a class just for Pintos?

Take a look at the AM time. I think it's gonna be a tough two days for the Phantom in September this year. I think Bowland PAXed by over 4 seconds with his scratch time!!!

From the SCCAForums (too kewl - Hedge):

"Spec Capri and Spec Pinto are two local spec classes that GulfCoast Autocrossers has. Basically, at the beginning of each year, you pay a fee and get to drive either one of them for the year. Everyone uses the exact same car, with a different number on the side, so there is no tuning involved. The cars are maintained by President Dave Hutter. "

          Poor tires...

Those Falken Azeni RS tires seem to be the hot choice for street tire. I lost count of the cars I saw running them this last weekend at Slush and they are becoming hard to find in Washington State. Best part of them is that they are priced fairly low with 195/60/14 at $49US or there abouts.

I think Michael Lee has something to do with that. When I was running his Neon ACR last year and I said I wanted to run it in NWR/SCCA Street Tire class, he said Falken Azenis was the best tire. No one locally was running them. So I got a set, and the difference in time between his admittedly really bad $25US Discount Tire tires, and the Falken Azenis was 6 SECONDS. After the first *run* I had on Azenis, suddenly all the street tire competitors were asking about Azenis (Michael Lee was talking them up, proud of his "baby") .

Forget indexing, I was now beating a trophy contending Z06 driver on raw times and won the Season series last year when before I ran those tires, I was almost mathematically eliminated from being able to win.

Michael and I took them down to Portland SCCA weekend event last year and had Steve Wynne (an STS National Champion and member of the Street Touring Advisory Committee) try them out on the 2nd day of the event. He and I ran his STS Neon on them, and even though my Azenis were 195 width (vs the 225 Pilot's he normally ran) he still did at least as well as he did on the wider Pilot's.

Next thing I know Ron Bauer gets a set for his S2000 (or maybe it was his Miata) and is raving about them locally. Now, everyone locally wants them, but they are real tough to find.

I'd like to get a set for my Mustang as a heavy rain tire to see how they compare to my BFG KD tires. If it rains, maybe I'll swing a deal to compare the two at the all day Test and Tune on March 9th.
